Barbie is moving into a newly-refurbished home. Last year, Mattel has partnered with technology company ToyTalk and brought us a Wi-Fi enabled Barbie with voice recognition technology. This year, it only makes sense that high-tech Barbie also gets a smart Dream House. Barbie’s Dream House has entered into the digital age as Mattel introduced the iconic doll’s brand-new home during the annual 2016 International Toy Fair held in New York City.

The Barbie Hello Dreamhouse
The Hello Barbie Dreamhouse is a six-room, fully-enabled smart home that comes equipped with Wi-Fi, connects with an app, and is supported with voice recognition software, which means that it can be controlled using voice commands. Little kids can talk directly to Barbie’s house, and it has the ability to decode certain commands and act upon them.
For instance, kids can ask the house to turn on the oven, turn on the lights, and take Barbie on an elevator ride! Since it is powered with cloud technology, the Dream House also understands more complex commands such as “getting ready for school.” It then turns on the bathroom lights and triggers running water sound effects in the shower. Think of the technology behind iPhone’s Siri or Windows’ Cortana and you will get a sense of the power behind the new Barbie Dream House.
And if that is not enough, it is also equipped with smart lights and sounds that sets up the house into different play modes – hangout, party, and fun. When the Dream house is activated in party mode, it turns on flashing lights and fun music. The staircase also transforms into a slide to give guests quick access to the party.
Barbie flies high
Since the doll and her house is fully updated, Barbie’s mode of transportation is also keeping with the times. Barbie says goodbye to her convertible and says hello to her flying drone hover board, which comes with a lightweight form version of Barbie riding it. Flying Barbie wears a pink, blue and silver outfit.
Inspired by the space movie Barbie Starlight Adventure, The Barbie Starlight Adventure RC Hover board actually flies high, and it is best played outdoors. It also comes with a pink and blue controller that matches Barbie’s outfit. The remote has a user-friendly joystick and a button to control flying height. This promises hours of active fun!
The Downside Of The Barbie Hello Dreamhouse
Despite its cool features, the Hello Barbie Dream House has received several protests from child advocate groups. They criticized that the Dream House can be pre-programmed with inappropriate replies. There are also security issues concerning ToyTalk apps. However, ToyTalk and Mattel assure us that this security bug issue has been dealt with and the products are very safe.
How Much Is The Barbie Hello Dreamhouse?
Both the new Barbie Voice-Activated smart Dream House and the Starlight Adventure RC hover board will be available for sale in stores this fall. Christmas 2016 will surely be an exciting year for little girls as “Santa” has the option to give them either the new Barbie Dream House or the Barbie Starlight Adventure Hover board. How much will it cost for “Santa” to buy the dream house or hover board?
The Dream House’s retail price is $300, and the hover board is priced at around $59.99. Despite being expensive, Mattel is expecting the Dream House to sell well. Well-meaning parents are expected to make their little girls’ dreams come true by buying them the latest Barbie toys.
Aside from major toy stores, these latest Barbie toys are also available in Amazon and other online stores.
The Hello Barbie Dreamhouse is surely quite an investment, but it promises hours of delight for your child. Bearing in mind that parents should be the one to control the mobile application for the toy, we see no reason for parents not to buy it if they could afford the hefty price tag.
